  17. against spurious claims which cannot be substantiated...  V34+ wouldn't
  18. have happened without AT&T...

  23. Users of off-line mail readers under QWK, Blue~Wave, and other formats.
  24. They (PackLink is one) can prepare mail off line ready for polling using
  25. an EMSI packet and back comes your traffic, compressed, ready for unpacking,
  26. sorting, display in your Off-line reader.

  28. No need nowadays to enter the BBS at all.  A netmail addressed to the
  29. program (PTQwk) in this instance with commands can do all sorts of things:

  33. RESET     <board> [msg#]          Reset last read pointers on msg board.

  37. DATA      <value>                 Change user data phonenumber.
  38. VOICE     <value>                 Change user voice phonenumber.
  39. PASSWORD  <value>                 Change user password.
  40. FORMAT    QWK/OMEN/BWAVE/ASCII    Change export format.
  41. ARCHIVE   <value>                 Change default archive format.
  42. PROTOCOL  <value>                 Change default transfer protocol.

  50. Support BBS's are very common for that special setup or help file, to view
  51. product details, updates etc.  Anyway, what's a WWW site but a BBS with
  52. interactive HTML?  Just it's not a direct connect.  And considering all
  53. the bottlenecks and slow ftp speeds being sold by ISPs these days...
